Did you ever think creating dozens of web pages and blogs for SEO is a hassle?
Well, what if I told you there is a way to create hundreds, if not thousands, of pages at scale? Most importantly, if done right, these pages can rank on Google and generate leads for your business.
Thanks to pSEO
In this article, we will talk about pSEO, and along the way, I will share how we helped one of our clients at our agency (aka Pulling Off Strategies) generate 500+ leads per month using pSEO
What is Programmatic SEO & It’s Benefits?
Programmatic SEO, or pSEO, is about creating a ton of web pages as fast and as efficiently as possible. Instead of making every page from scratch, you use templates and data to create pages for specific keywords. For businesses with many products or services spread across different locations or use cases, this method is perfect.
For example, Canva and Zapier are two big brands that use pSEO to drive traffic and leads.
Canva, being a design tool, created a pSEO strategy where they made a template library dedicated to each sort of design. Examples of their pSEO pages were free logo makers and free
On the other hand, Zapier has over 800k+ programmatic landing pages that generate over 2 Million Organic Traffic Per Month. For example, their app integration pages have a template that each page follows.
Not just big brands but even small businesses can leverage SEO to their advantage.
Here are some of the main benefits of SEO for Businesses with websites
1) Budget-friendly
It can drain your budget when you’re creating hundreds or thousands of pages manually. But pSEO allows you to automate page generation, saving you time and money.
By using page templates, you can fill in data all at once, which is much cheaper than hiring writers for each page. That means you’re getting more for your buck while growing your online presence.
2) Content Scalability
Instead of writing one article at a time, you can write content for multiple pages at the same time. This becomes particularly important when you have multiple products or services.
For example, if you have an e-commerce site, you can create a different page for each product variation without any sweat.
3) Improved Organic Presence of Your Website
pSEO implementation will help you increase your website’s organic visibility by a huge margin.
This is simply because the more pages you have, the more opportunities you have for people to find your Business online. This means that you will probably see an increase in traffic and leads over time.
4) You Crack User Intent
In pSEO, the overall game is around creating pages for specific queries.
For instance, if someone searches for ‘Delhi to Lahore,’ having a page that helps people find relevant buses and planes on that route satisfies the user intent.
Not only does this help you satisfy user intent and rank better, but it also builds trust with your audience.
Apart from the benefits, there are some caveats to doing pSEO especially if you’re doing this first time. You can mess this up big time.
How To Implement Programmatic SEO to Generate Leads and Grow Your Business
At the beginning of this year, we onboarded a client who was constrained with a budget and wanted to grow organically.
At PullingOffStrategies, often most of our clients are from the SaaS space, and we had never thought of using pSEO. However this particular client was in the cybersecurity space and wanted to rank their services in multiple different locations.
We analyzed some keywords for this client and found out that there was a scope to rank on particular locations where this client offered their services, and we went ahead and created multiple templatized pages for our client that looked like this
In this section, I will try to explain the exact steps we took to create these pages and how we were able to rank them, which resulted in 500+ form submissions in a month for this client.
1) Analyze and Come Up with Your target Categories
The first thing you need to do is to figure out which categories are most important to your Business.
Here, you really need to do some serious keyword research to get the category terms and modifiers for your product or service.
- Category Terms: Naturally, these are broad keywords but can act as your main categories for your business, such as ‘running shoes’ or ‘graphic design’.
- Modifiers: Using modifiers niches down your focus to a specific type of your product/service, e.g., “for flat feet” or “for small business.”
In pSEO, you mostly have to work with long-tail keywords that target specific search queries. Say, for example, “best running shoes for flat feet”, this is a targeted long-tail keyword that will pull in a whole niche audience.
2) Choose Your Appropriate Keyword Modifier Type
A keyword modifier is an extra word that adds more detail to your keyword. These words give context to your category terms and help in creating more targeted content.
This is useful as it allows you to build pages that are unique to each search intent. Not only does this increase your chances of ranking, but you also connect with potential customers actively searching for what you offer.
According to us, five types of keyword modifiers can help you with your pSEO strategy
- Comparisons (X vs Y)
- Location-specific (X services in Y city)
- Data Collection (Best X Cities To Live In)
- Calculators (ROI on your X)
- Case studies (X Case Study for Manufacturing)
For our client, we had to go with location-specific modifiers. Obviously, there are even more types of modifiers and pages you can uncover for your pSEO campaign
3) Create a Page Template
The client had a WordPress website for this project, so it was easy for us to create a template using Elementor and reuse that template for all their service pages. By using Elementor, you can easily design custom pages for your business.
The reason why you should use Elementor if you own a WordPress website is because
- User-Friendly Interface: Any text, image, button, and whatnot can be added to your webpage using the drag-and-drop functionality without the need for any knowledge of coding.
- Responsive Design: This is important for user experience, and Elementor makes sure that your pages are responsive on all devices.
- Dynamic Placeholders: In your template, you can use placeholders for elements that you want to change with each page. For example, you can create a placeholder for the product name or service location.
By creating a well-structured template, you are laying the groundwork for replicating multiple pages quickly.
4) Use AI to Write Content at Scale
Once the page template is created, it is time to create content for each page, and if you’re trying to write 500 pages of content. Then, doing it manually can take you weeks, if not months.
Hence, to create content, we used AI to fill the content on each page. It was a combination of Google Sheets + ChatGPT plugin where we created content on columns for each page and used dynamic variables that we used in our elementary template to fill each page with different content.
Obviously, if you rely totally on AI, it will make your content pathetic. Hence, we had one editor from our team to take care of AI content and make sure everything that was written was relevant.
5) Optimize The Content for Its Keywords
After your content is generated, it’s time to optimize it for search engines. This is an important step to make sure your pages rank well.
Here is what we tried to focus on mainly
- Page Title: Each page followed on format where the city that we’re targeting changed with every page
- Meta Title & Meta Descriptions: Considering the search intent, we stick to short meta titles and meta descriptions that enticed curiosity by including the main keyword in it.
- URLs: All URLs followed the same format ‘xyz/category/service-in-location’
- Images: Since we needed more time to create each image individually. We took the help of DALLE and prompted it multiple times to develop somewhat relevant images with keyword-rich anchor texts.
- Heading (H2’s and H3’s): The sub-headings of each page changed along with each keyword modifier
- CTA’s: Almost all the pages had the same CTA
Proper on-page optimization increases your chances of ranking your content and pages higher in search results and attracting more visitors.
6) Use Relevant Plugins To Publish Templatized Pages at Scale
Honestly speaking, most of the publishing was done by a developer that we hired for this project, and she made our life easy by setting up our template pages with the WP All import plugin.
If you’re using the WP All Import plugin, you can greatly increase your programmatic SEO (pSEO) efforts using it This powerful tool lets you import large amounts of data from CSV or XML files and create many SEO-friendly pages quickly and easily.
WP All Import has one of the key features of being able to create custom templates for the imported data. You can also define how every bit of content can show on your site and optimize its SEO with the right set of keywords and structured data.
If used with plugins like WP All Import and Rank Math, you can quickly add structured data to your pages, improving your visibility in search and potentially enticing users to click on your page.
Wrap Up
Businesses that want leads organically can now use Programmatic SEO in a budget-friendly way.
Websites can greatly increase their online visibility by scaling web page publishing that targets specific long-tail keywords without the burden of manual content creation.
Here are a few that are really important for a programmatic SEO campaign, businesses should do thorough keyword research, create good templates, and optimize content for search engines.
Not to forget, by using AI for content, websites can reduce their processes and generate a lot of leads.
